Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Bradley “Lizzie” Scott Barr, conducted by the Rev. Thurmon Williams, were held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Jerusalem United Methodist Churchyard Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Barr died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her residence in Salters. She was born September 4, 1916, in Salters, a daughter of the late James “Jim” Bradley and Annie McCullough Bradley. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the Senior Choir, president of the United Methodist Women, a Trustee, a member of the Cemetery Committee and as “Mother of the Church.” She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Providence Chapter #249 and a member of Great Hope #8, Farmers Aid Lodge. She attended Blakely Graded School of Williamsburg County in Salters. She was married to the late Jack Scott, Sr. and the late Sollie Barr, Sr. She was preceded in death by four children, Jack Scott, Jr., Jimmy Lewis Barr, Calvin Barr and Harold Barr.
Survivors are: four daughters, Onetha S. Brown, Mary Etta B. Pressley, Lessie B. Odom and Diane B. Tisdale, all of Salters; three sons, Willie James Barr of Salters; and Sollie Barr, Jr. and Dennis Barr, both of Rochester, New York; four grandchildren she reared as her own, Richard “Ricky” Barr of Baltimore, Maryland; Patrick Barr of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Dennis Barr, Jr. of Rochester, New York; and Danyel Barr of Louisville, Kentucky; six godchildren, Janet Frazier, Donna Nesmith, Cynthia Clark, Mary Ann Trotter, Diane McCrea and Bruce Conyers; an adopted daughter, Mary Conyers of Lane; 44 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
