EDNA GARRETT, KINGSTREE

Mrs. Edna Jones Garrett, 96, widow of Jimmie Garrett, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, in a Kingstree nursing home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Live Oak Memorial Gardens mausoleum in Charleston. Mrs. Garrett was born February 13, 1915, in Shawmut, Alabama, a daughter of the late James Monroe Jones and Alma Elizabeth Raughton Jones. She attended school in Alabama and during World War II she worked in the Savannah, Georgia shipyard. After moving to Charleston, she and her husband owned and operated Garrett Carpet Co. in Charleston for many years. She was preceded in death by one son, James Carl Garrett and one daughter, Mary Joan Lindenmuth. Survivors are: her children, Jack O. Garrett (Brenda) of Charleston; Nancy Sue Loy (Walter) of Jay, Oklahoma; Anne G. Cantley of Kingstree; and Eileen Sadowski (Larry) of Chester, Virginia; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440 or Kingstree Christian Academy, 644 Sumter Highway, Kingstree, SC 29556.
