My fun-fun-fun, sweet-sweet-sweet teenaged niece and nephew were visiting the area recently. (They currently live in PA...a military family.) We discovered not one, but two exciting, new beverage offerings. One was in Conway and the other was in Marion. I don’t know which is my favorite. I did not try either one.
One evening, we pulled into an unnamed drive-in and saw on the menu, “Ocean Water.” All of us groaned a huge, “EEwwwwww!” and laughed at the thought of it. We noticed it came in about four sizes too! Now, being close to the beach gave us loads of ideas. We discussed pulling/pushing one of those frozen lemonade carts up and down the strand full of frozen ocean water. We’re still debating the ifs, ands or buts to this project. If we brave the waves, we drink some anyway, right? And the salt keeps us from dehydrating, right? Figure if it is for sale, some nut will buy it! Anyway, they took a picture of said menu to show their northern, more sophisticated friends what we South Carolinians drink!
The VERY next day, fun nephew and I had our annual “just the two of us” luncheon. We chose a Mexican restaurant due to their reputation for wonderful, fresh cooked food. (And due to the fact that he knows his aunt has never met a Mexican food she didn’t like.) After we’d chosen the best seat in the house, the waiter gave us a menu and asked for our beverage order. We read down the list UNTIL we got to “SWEAT TEA.” Yep, there it was in black and white...SWEAT tea. Once again, the camera came out for pictures. I reckon this tea was not just sweat, but Hispanic Sweat Tea. I do not know when they add the sweat. Or maybe it just drops off their foreheads into the tea. (Sorry if I’m grossing you out but I’m not the one who put it on the menu!) I have never to my knowledge tasted any sweat tea. Have you? I have worried about it after seeing those disgusting food shows on TV where they secretly tape all the nasty stuff going on the kitchen.
Chai tea, oolong tea, green tea? Sure! Lots of benefits there. But I just cannot figure out the benefits of drinking sweat tea. As for the Diva, she will stick with her iced, plain, ole tap water and good- old- nothing- can- beat- it SWEET tea!
