Funeral services for Dennis Parson, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine and the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr., were held Friday, March 1, 2013, at Bethel AME Church of Lane. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the McKnight Cemetery of Lane. Mr. Parson, 47, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Providence Hospital Northeast of Columbia. He was born July 6, 1965, in Kingstree, the son of Pearlestine Conyers Parson and Roosevelt Parson, Jr. He was a 1983 graduate of C.E. Murray High School of Greeleyville and a 1988 graduate of South Carolina State University of Orangeburg. He was a member of Bethel AME Church, where he served as a Steward, Class Leader and a member and founder of Bethel Male Chorus. He served six years in the United States Army. He was employed at South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Webster University of Columbia. Colonial Rubber Company of Kingstree, South Carolina State Accident Fund of Columbia, and Richland County School District One of Columbia formerly employed him. He enjoyed recording music and working on computers. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: his wife, Cynthia Patricia Mack Parson of Columbia; one daughter, Alicia Denise Parson of Columbia; one sister, Joyce A. Holmes of Lane; two brothers, Sidney Lee Parson of Baltimore, Maryland; and Anthony Parson of Lane; two cousins, reared like siblings, Jeanette Singleton and Ulysses Singleton, both of Columbia; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Mack of Greeleyville; and an adopted brother, Glenn A. Keels of Greeleyville.
