DAVID HAYNESWORTH - KINGSTREE

Funeral services for SFC David “Sarge” or “Sonny” Haynesworth were held Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Florence National Cemetery in Florence.
SFC Haynesworth died Sunday, October 18, 2009. He was born March 6, 1941, in Florence, the son of the late Hazel and Annie Dell Haynesworth. He was educated in the public schools of Florence County. He joined the United States Army at the age of 18, where he served twice in Vietnam. He was stationed in different places all over the world, such as: Korea, Baumholder, Germany; Ft. Gordon, Georgia; and Ft. Jackson.
He was an army recruiter in Detroit, Michigan for five years. When he retired from the army, he helped to establish the first JROTC program at Williamsburg Blakely. Later he moved on to the Kingstree Senior High and helped to establish the JROTC program there. He later retired from teaching the JROTC program. Survivors are: his wife, Iris M. Haynesworth of Salters; six daughters, Felicia Haynesworth and Ramona Haynesworth, both of Detroit, Michigan; April Haynesworth of Las Vegas, Nevada; Isis Verser (Marcus) of El Paso, Texas; Iris I. Haynesworth (Jessica James) of Salters; and Ikea Haynesworth of Florence; one brother, Johnny Haynesworth (Rose) of Florence; four sisters, Martha James, Annie Coleman (Donnie) and Cecelia Burch, all of Florence; and Hazel Graham of Spencer, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
