DANIEL STRONG, GREELEYVILLE

Funeral services for Daniel “Son” Strong, conducted by Apostle J. Bernard McCray, were held Friday, February 8, 2013, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the Florence National Cemetery of Florence. Mr. Strong died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital of Kingstree. He was born August 30, 1934, in Williamsburg County, Kingstree, the son of the late Jessie James Strong and Sallie Wallace Strong. During his childhood he developed a love for farming, cultivation and raising animals. He always considered himself first and foremost a farmer. He attended school in the Kingstree area, and on September 22, 1953, he enlisted with the Airborne Division of the United States Army, where he worked in medics and eventually became a corporal. When he was discharged from the Army on November 18, 1957, he moved to New York City, New York, where he worked at Long Island Hospital for several years. In 1965, he began working for Temco Cleaning Services, until he retired in 1997. In 1999, he returned to Kingstree to his first love of farming and raising animals. A brother, Olin Strong, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Susie Mae Strong of Greeleyville; one daughter, Beverly Ann Strong of Bronx, New York; one son, Daniel Strong, Jr., of Bronx, New York; one brother, Leroy Strong of Florence; and three sisters, Rosa Strong Wright of Florence; Henrietta Strong of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mary Strong Grant of Albany, New York.
