Funeral services for Charlie “Nuda” David Johnson, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Herman Gibson, were held Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery of Kingstree. Mr. Johnson died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his residence. He was born September 2, 1935, a son of the late Isaac Johnson and Sarah McClary Johnson. He was a member of Old Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. One son, Levern Johnson, preceded him in death. He was a farmer for many years. Survivors are: his wife, Esther Scott Johnson of the home; four daughters, Sullie J. Gibson (Ernest), Bessie J. Battle (Gregg), Doretha J. Godfrey (Phillip) and Queen J. Richardson, all of Kingstree; two sons, David Singletary and Anthony Scott; one adopted granddaughter; three grandsons, he reared as his own, Larry Johnson and Quincy Johnson, both of Kingstree; and Jamon Johnson of Culpeper, Virginia; two sisters, Annie Sue Johnson and Minnie Lee McCrea (Emerson) of Kingstree; one brother, Walter Johnson (Rebecca) of Rochester, New York; and eight grandchildren.
