Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Bell Capers Burgess, conducted by the Rev. Richard McClary and the Rev. Lewis Walker, Jr. were held Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Wilson United Methodist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mrs. Burgess, 97, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. She was born May 2, 1912, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the Rev. John and Henrietta Joe Capers. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Wilson United Methodist Church. For 40 years, she was employed by the writer and actress, Gertrude Berg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burgess and her only child, Robert McDaonold Burgess. Survivors are: three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
