Funeral services for Andrew Jackson “AJ” McFarland Giles, conducted by Bishop Jeremiah Ravenel, were held Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Inez M. Henryhand Memorial Chapel of St. Stephen. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Tri-Churches Cemetery of St. Stephen.

Mr. Giles died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at his residence in New York City, New York. He was born April 27, 1944, in St. Stephen, the son of the late Cora Burgess Giles and Johnny McFarland. He received his formal education in the Berkeley County School System. He relocated to New York City, New York in the late 1960s. He worked for New York City Transit Authority, where he was a conductor and a motorman, from 1971 until his retirement. He was married to Inez McFarland, resolving their marriage in 1997.

Survivors are: his companion, Yvonne Beatty; two children; Lizzie Lee (Destin) and Andria McFarland (Roberto), both of Bronx, New York; two step-daughters, Bridget Beatty of New York, New York; and Theresa Moore of Bronx, New York; three sisters, Hattie Mae Lloyd, Willie Mae Rembert and Johnnie R. Price (Seawall), all of St. Stephen; one brother, Harry Giles of St. Stephen; and two grandchildren.
