Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Alberta P. Cunningham, conducted by the Rev. Carlton J. McClam, Sr., were held Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Nesmith. Mrs. Cunningham died Tuesday, October 6, 2009. She was born May 24, 1921, in Nesmith, a daughter of the late Samuel and Cloria McKnight Pressley. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She attended and graduated from Brown High School in Nesmith. In high school, she was captain and a strong point guard of the basketball team. She became certified in cake baking, cake decorations and retired from the health department as a certified nurse’s assistant. She was first married to the late George Williams. She was later married to the late Joe Cunningham. Survivors are: one daughter, Georgianna Jones of Greensboro, North Carolina; one son, Mark Cunningham of Cheraw; surrogate daughter, Patricia Nesmith of Nesmith; two sisters, Louise P. Wilson of Roselle, New Jersey; and Mary P. Brown of Orangeburg; two grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.
