Williamsburg County Election Commission Chair Priscilla Cooper said turnout at the polls for the June 24 run-off election for South Carolina House of Representatives District 101, and County Council seat District 3, was much slower than she had expected.
Totals from those precincts in District 101 show that, of the 18,099 registered voters only a total of 4,070 ballots were cast. Candidate, Williamsburg County Treasurer Pearl Brown received 1,861 of those votes, while incumbent Kenneth Kennedy retains his position with 2,209 votes.
For County Council District 3 the race between incumbent Harry Darby, and opposing candidate Murrie Beaufort votes were close. As some of the first totals were reported, it appeared Beaufort was leading with 189 votes to Darby’s 130, but when the final totals were reported, Darby led with 393 votes to Beaufort’s 381.
