Drug Busts Made

5/6/2008

According to Williamsburg County Sheriff’s reports, an ongoing investigation of drug distribution conducted by the Narcotics Division of the Sheriff’s Office, S.L.E.D., and the FBI, led to two separate arrests in Williamsburg County this past week.

On April 29, 2008 sheriff’s officers arrested 34-year old Anthony Swinton, of Salters, on narcotics violations. According to Williamsburg County Narcotics Investigator Shannon Coker, a federal indictment had been issued on Swinton for distribution and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

According to arrest reports, an investigator observed Swinton leave his residence, on Swinton Road in Salters, driving a red S-10 truck and travel toward Taft Road. Once on Taft Road, the report states, an officer attempted to stop Swinton, who refused to stop, turning instead onto a gravel road where he drove to a wooded area then fled on foot.

The report said Swinton ran through the woods, then out into a field where he was apprehended. Swinton was then transported to the Williamsburg County Detention Center. After obtaining consent to search the residence, investigators found a large quantity of marijuana in Swinton’s room, as well as in one of Swinton’s cars in the back yard of the residence.

Reportedly 26.28 ounces of marijuana was found at the property as well as scales.
A separate arrest was made on May 1, when, according to Williamsburg County Sheriff reports, an investigator recognized Kevin Pendergrass driving on Main Street in Kingstree, toward Longstreet. Pendergrass, the report stated, was also wanted on federal indictment charges for distribution and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

The investigator followed the subject to Hardee’s in Kingstree, where he was placed into custody.

More than $400 in cash and a .32 caliber bullet were found on Pendergrass’ person, along with a “quantity” of crack cocaine. A little more than $200 in cash found in his vehicle. Pendergrass was transported to Williamsburg County Detention Center.

The report further states, a search warrant was executed for Pendergrass’ home on 613 Franklin Street, where officers found a “quantity of white pills,” inside the residence, as well as approximately 15 grams of crack cocaine, and a set of digital scales, along with some plastic bags.

Both Pendergrass and Swinton are being held in federal custody, waiting formal hearings.
