Accident claims teacher’s life

On Monday, April 28, an automobile accident claimed the life of a Williamsburg County School District teacher. Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight said 36-year old Tangela S. McBride of 79 Quail St., Kingstree, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 a.m.

McKnight said a six-year-old passenger traveling with McBride was taken to Williamsburg Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries and is expected to recover.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins of the SC Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 6:50 a.m. on US Highway 521 eight miles East of Salters. Collins stated that a 2000 GMC Envoy collided head-on with a 1995 Kenworth truck. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

McKnight said the driver of the log truck, Willie James Tisdale of Williamsburg County, was not injured in the accident. McBride, employed with WCSD since 2004, was an instructional assistant at D.P. Cooper Elementary.
