WA took on PCA in their opening game of the season on 8/25. The game was a blowout, with the final score resting at 52-6. The game was a fast-paced exercise in the Stallions's potent offense and lock-down defense. Wes Smith had a standout game, both offensively and on special teams. He was 5/6 on PATS, successfully completed a 42-yard field goal attempt in the 3rd quarter, recovered a bad snap and turned a botched point-after attempt into a beautiful pass for a two-point conversion to Charlie Caulder, and caught a touchdown pass from Conrad Balder in the first quarter. Smith is a Senior and in his second season as the primary kicker for the Stallions.
The Stallions started off hot, forcing a punt and taking the ball in for a touchdown less than one minute into the game. Our passing and rushing game shone, with touchdown drives by Camden Moore, Conrad Balder, TJ Bennett, and Micah Balder. Receiving touchdowns were made by Wes Smith and BJ Davis. Micah Balder also earned himself an interception during his time on defense, rounding out a solid night for the Sophomore.
With the clock running after the half, the Stallions made quick work of holding the PCA Eagles to only 6 points on their home turf. This game was a great kickoff to the season. This year will be tough to beat, coming off of a 2022 SCISA AA State Championship, but new Head Coach Tyler Boyd and his team of Stallions are locked in on what is sure to be another record year for Williamsburg Academy.
