The Hospice center is located at 205 Martin Luther King Blvd. by the Bank of Greeleyville. Hospice has been serving patients in Williamsburg County for several years but the new center will provide a physical presence in order to take care of local resident’s needs. Tidelands Hospice cares for terminally ill patients, regardless of diagnosis, age, race, nationality, physical capabilities and/or reimbursement source (once a physician has determined hospice care to be approved). A General Electric 16 multi-slice CT (CAT) scan replaced an older model. Purchase of the unit required a year of processing that included inspections by a radiological physicist and DHEC.After the initial inspections were approved, construction to accommodate the unit began. Once in place, hospital employed radiological technologists underwent an intense training session by certified General Electric experts.  The GE BrightSpeed CT performs non-invasive diagnosis from colon cancer to cardiovascular disease. In spite of 17 fire stations already serving the county, Williamsburg County Budget Director Liz Nelson stated the additional locations would incorporate areas that lie more than five miles from a responding fire station. Eastern Engineering, Inc. was contracted to provide a survey that defined areas and determine order of priority for each site. Each station will staff one full-time firefighter at the time of completion. All stations will be completed within one year of commencement.
