$60,000 in funding has been awarded to Vital Aging address concerns of the Vital Aging Hemingway Center participants, thanks the legislative delegation and elected officials and board chair who listened to their needs and responded.

On Wednesday, January 3, Senator Ronnie Sabb (District #32) and Representative Lucas Atkinson (District #57) announced $60,000 in funding to address concerns of the Vital Aging Hemingway Center participants.

The funds will be used to locate new ADA accessible restrooms closer to their present activity rooms at the Chavis Onestop. In addition, there will be more storage for the center's adjacent craft room.

Senator Sabb spoke of the need to help take care of senior citizens, which was echoed in the remarks given by Representative Atkinson who said that he was glad to help in this way.

Also present were Mrs. Kimber W. Cooper, Vital Aging Board Chairperson and Williamsburg County Treasurer; Mr. Kelvin Washington, Williamsburg County Supervisor; Mr. Joe Lee Williamsburg County Councilman (District #1) and Mr. Torrance Wilson, Williamsburg County Councilman District #2; Mr. William Freeman, Town Manager for the Town of Hemingway and Tim Hood Town of Hemingway Police Chief. Mr. Robert Welch, Executive Director of Vital Aging, thanked the seniors for giving him a letter, which identified their needs.

This was subsequently passed on to elected officials and the Williamsburg County delegation, which provided the funding to address this critical need at this center.
