Several businesses saw damage to their properties as heavy winds blew through the county on Tuesday, January 9. Fast Point, located on Longstreet sustained damage as the wind ripped through their canopy.

Williamsburg County and Kingstree Fire Departments responded to more than 37 calls during Tuesday’s storm. Heavy rain bands caused flooding in low-lying areas and winds upward of 40 mph toppled trees and scattered debris across the area.

Williamsburg County public schools were out on Tuesday in preparation for the event, and operated on a two-hour delay on Wednesday as roads continued to be cleared and power restored.

Duke Energy reported 1265 outages across the county at the height of the storm. Santee Electrical Cooperative reported 4,400 outages.

Overall, the storm was consistent with National Weather Service predictions, bringing moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, big wind gusts, a potential tornado in Bamberg County, and between 1 and 1.5 inches of rainfall to southeast South Carolina.
