Katie Wheeler, Kingstree’s Main Street Director, is stepping down. Wheeler has held the position since February of 2022.

Wheeler says she has decided to take a step back to help her husband with his business, Santee Roofing of Kingstree.

As Main Street Director she has overseen the sale of the iconic Marcus building on Main Street which will be revitalized, a new mural for Academy Street, the revitalization of several downtown buildings through the Façade program, and two successful Pig Pickin’ Festivals back in the historic district.

Wheeler made the announcement on the heals of the retirement of Town Manager Richard Treme. The two worked closely together in their symbiotic rolls. She says the “lack of continuity” of working with Treme is going to be a challenge for the new director, but she is committed to making the transition as smooth as possible when someone is hired to fill the position. Her official last day is January 25.

The Kingstree Main Street Director job has been posted on the Town website at thekingstree.org/employment/mainstreet-director.
