HEMINGWAY, S.C. – Duke Energy Foundation recently awarded $20,000 to Caring and Sharing for critical home improvements for seniors in Williamsburg County.

Duke Energy’s Senior Home Repair Program provided 15 qualifying nonprofits grants of up to $20,000 through a request for proposals announced in September.

“South Carolina’s senior population should never have to decide between basic necessities and living out their lives in safety in their own home,” said Mike Callahan, Duke Energy’s South Carolina state president. “A simple home repair or safety improvement can be the big difference.”

“Caring and Sharing’s ramp program assists seniors by installing strong, aluminum ramps to provide a safe way to enter and exit their homes. I’m proud to present them with this gift that will assist with their existing senior home repair program,” said Quinetta Buterbaugh, Duke Energy government and community relations manager.

Caring and Sharing Assistant Director, Sel Hemingway, expressed his appreciation for this generosity from Duke Energy Foundation which allows Caring and Sharing to expand their services to those in need. “The addition of the ramp program has been a priority of ours for quite a while, and now we will be able to move forward in providing mobility assistance to many of our citizens”, said Hemingway.

Caring and Sharing will administer the funds based on its mission, addressing long waiting lists for such repairs.
