Community members and leaders gathered at The Depot on Thursday afternoon, February 15, in celebration of Kingstree Town Manager Richard Treme’s retirement.

US Representative Jim Clyburn’s office presented Treme with a certificate recognizing his service to Williamsburg County, and Senator Ronnie Sabb spoke of Treme’s dedication to Kingstree and the county that he has served over the years. Kingstree Mayor Darren Tisdale thanked Treme for his friendship, guidance and service and presented him with a pocket watch.

Treme announced his retirement on December 18. He first came to Kingstree as police chief in November 1988. He served three years in the police department before becoming magistrate. In 1995, he ran for Williamsburg County Supervisor and held the office for 12 years, before retiring the first time. Nine years later, he returned to Kingstree to take the role as Town Manager, and where he has served for the past eight years and has played a key role in the economic development of Kingstree.

Treme and his wife, Marilyn, will be moving to Lexington to spend time with their family.
