A collision between a Williamsburg County Sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle and a man driving a moped is under investigation. According to a statement issued by Williamsburg County Sheriff Office, on August 14, at approximately 10:15 p.m. a deputy was responding to a call when he collided with a moped driven by Edward Goodman, 56, of Williamsburg County.
Goodman was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina where he later died as a result of his injuries, according to Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight. The SC Highway Patrol at the request of the sheriff’s office is investigating the incident. According to Corporal Sonny Collins the moped and the deputy’s patrol car were traveling eastbound when the patrol car hit the rear of the moped. The SCHP MAIT (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) is investigating the incident. The investigation can take several weeks to complete.
