Man dies in head-on collision

A Florence County man was killed in a two-car crash on August 22, on the Manning Highway. James E. Hunter, 66, of Florence, died as a result of his injuries according to Williamsburg County Deputy Coroner William Horton, III. The crash occurred around 2:55 p.m.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, Hunter's son, Ondre Hunter, also of Florence was traveling south in a 2003 Jeep when his vehicle crossed the centerline striking a northbound 2005 Chevy pickup driven by Tanya Bryant of Greeleyville.

James Hunter was a passenger in the 2003 Jeep. Ondre Hunter was airlifted to an area hospital. Bryant was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

Williamsburg County Sheriff's deputies re-routed traffic for over an hour in order the keep the area clear.

The crash is pending an investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
