Mildred Newell, Greeleyville - Funeral services for Mildred E. “Plummie” Newell, conducted by the Rev. James Carter, were held Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Zion Churchyard Cemetery of Greeleyville.
Ms. Newell died Saturday, August 9, 2014. She was born February 22, 1948, in Greeleyville, the daughter of the late James Albert McKnight and Sarah Louise Newell-Nelson. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She retired from National Savings and Trust Bank after having worked for several years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang on the choir and served as a Sunday School Secretary. She generously donated her time as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and other community organizations. Survivors are: two sons, Andre (Donnie) Fullwood of Charleston; and Antwaun Newell (Toniya) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her companion, Isiah (James) McBride of Salters; two sisters, Margaret Salters and Christine Clark, both of Salters; one brother, Archie McKnight (Diana) of Thomasville, North Carolina; one she took as a mother, Frances Limehouse (Samuel) of Salters; two she helped rear, Kathy Hockett and Andrew A.J. Hokett; one cousin she took as a daughter, Makeisha McClary; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
