Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Eric Williams or Police Chaplain the Rev. Harold Jackson. Chief Williams or Rev. Jackson can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

Health Screening - The Nursing Department of Francis Marion University has been approved to provide free health screenings every Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Felician Center located at 1000 Thorne Avenue, Kingstree. Sugar testing, vision testing etc. will be provided free of charge. In addition, a licensed nurse will be available to assist individuals with some health planning on a regular basis.

Program - Through The Storm Outreach, Inc., a Maternity Group Home located in Kingstree, has beds available for youth ages 16 to 22. They will come pick the youth up from your facility and intake them into their program for up to 540 days. There are five beds available for pregnant and parenting girls. Yoga Classes - Regular yoga classes for beginners and Chair yoga classes are offered at the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Parrish Hall at 305 Hampton Ave., Kingstree. Please use the door at the hall that does not face Hampton Ave. on the left side. The classes are open to a diverse population and require no experience with yoga. Day Camp - Williamsburg and Florence County 4-H are partnering together to present “Healthy Kids in the Kitchen” cooking day camp in Hemingway August 12 to August 13.

This camp is open to all youth in Florence and Williamsburg counties ages nine to 13. The camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. They will meet at the First United Methodist Church of Hemingway located at 200 E. Broad Street. Attendees will prepare a snack and lunch meal each day. The class is limited to 20 students so sign up soon! The deadline to register is August 7. Pre-registration is required!

Charter School Registration - D.P. Cooper Charter School registration for new, transfer, and returning students will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until August 14. Registration - The Williamsburg County Recreation Department is now registering players ages eight to 12 for the 2014 Football Season. Registration dates are July21, through August 16. Festival - Trio Community Festival second annual Rib Fest will be held Saturday, August 23, at 9 a.m. in the Seaboard Square area between Trio Fire Station and the Trio Mini Mart & Swinnie Store. Vendor set-up is 7 a.m. There will be praise dance, jumping castle for the kids, free parking, street vendors, coolers, so bring your lawn chairs. No pets allowed.

9/11 - On Thursday September 11, the Kingstree Lions Club will conduct its annual 9/11 Remembrance. Anyone interested in attending will need to be at the corner of Main Street and Longstreet Street at 12 p.m. American flags will be on display from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. to remember those who were lost on 09/11/2001. All are welcome.

Donations - The SC Bar Young Lawyers Division is collecting backpacks and other school supplies for donation to schools and students in Kingstree. Supplies are being collected through Thursday, August 14, for donation to local schools in need. Supplies can be dropped off at Whetstone, Perkins, & Fulda LLC located at 112 W. Main St., Kingstree. Reunion - The Tomlinson Alumni, Inc. of Kingstree announces their eighth bi-annual Tonlinson High School Reunion for Labor Day weekend, Friday, August 29 through Sunday, August 31. On Friday, August 28, registration will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.; the opening ceremony from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and a fish fry will follow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at the Williamsburg County Recreational Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree. On Saturday, August 30, classes will meet at their leisure. Participants are also invited to visit the C. Williams-Rush Gallery/Museum located at 200 Hampton Ave., Kingstree at their leisure. Also on Saturday evening, a Black and Gold Gala will be held at Kingstree Middle School, 616 Martin Luther Ave., Kingstree from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Open House - Hemingway Elementary School, 160 Baxley Rd., Hemingway, will have an open house on Tuesday, August 19, at 3:30 p.m. HES families will receive fresh vegetables following their classroom visit. Classroom teachers will present parent(s)/guardian(s) with a bag and coupon to pick up fresh vegetables from the rear of the building.

Artwork - The C. Williams Rush Gallery/Museum of African-American Arts & Culture is currently featuring original artwork by Jacob Lawrence, Aaron Douglas, Joseph Delaney and others in connection to ‘The Harlem Renaissance: SC Connections?’ The evolving exhibit will include the music, musicians and performing artists of the Harlem Renaissance.
