George Scott, Kingstree - Funeral services for George G. Scott, directed by the Rev. Odell D. Ruffin, were held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Greater Black River Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home.
Mr. Scott died Friday, July 25, 2014. He was born October 5, 1930, in Kingstree, the son of the late Rosa Scott and Charles Thomas. He was educated in the public school system at Tomlinson High. At 19, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a Deacon at Resurrection Baptist Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for many years.? In 1994, he moved back to Kingstree. He worked at the Williamsburg County “dump site” on the Manning Highway for many years. He attended Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for many years. Survivors are: his wife, Alice Scott of the home; seven children: Valerie Powers, Gregory Scott, George Scott, Jr., Tyrone Scott, Tasha Scott, Josephine Washington, and Rose McNeil, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five step-children, Darlene Bond (Tyrone), Annette Degree (Andrew), and Arthur Carson, all of Kingstree; Maxine Carson and Wayne Carson, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five sisters, Nancy Williams (Willie) and Betty Stafford, both of Miami, Florida; Minerva Singletary (Vernell), Louise Strong (William), and Agnes Witherspoon, all of Kingstree; three brothers, Robert Thomas (Joann) and Theron Thomas (Alita), both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Willis Thomas (Rocky) of Kingstree; and six special grandchildren of the home, James Carson, Sabrina Carson, Maxine Harris, Garrett Harris, Brittany Carson, and Little Miss Ta-Cara McCrea, who he took as a great-grandchild.
