Eva Shirer, Lane - Eva Stack Shirer, widow of Francis M. Shirer Sr., died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee of Florence.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 1, 2014, at Lane United Methodist Church of Lane. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at New Market Cemetery of Greeleyville. Mrs. Shirer was born May 11, 1912, in Pinewood, the daughter of Adolphus Stack and Maud Griffin Stack. She attended the public schools of Pinewood, and graduated from Columbia College in 1933. She taught in the schools of Turkey Creek, Lane, St. Stephen, Lancaster and Dillon, working many years at Williamsburg Elementary and ending her decades-long career at Andrews Christian School. She was active in Lane Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, and president of the women’s circle.
Survivors are: two sisters, Jennie Willis of North Augusta; and Sadie Richardson of Sumter; one son, Francis M. Shirer, Jr. of Lexington; one daughter, Margaret Cox of Florence; and two grandchildren.
