Ruth Smith, Kingstree - Mrs. Ruth Jeanette Cannon Smith, 80, widow of Sam David Smith, Jr., died Friday, July 25, 2014, at her daughter’s residence. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Bloomingvale Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born February 23, 1934, in Williamsburg County, the daughter of William A. and Josephine Medlin Cannon. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and retired from Southern Bell as a telephone operator. She was a member of Bloomingvale Baptist Church. Three brothers, Francis, Steve, and Carl Cannon, preceded her in death. Survivors are: three daughters, Linda S. Driggers (Mackie) of Moncks Corner; Iris E. Smith-McGowan of Holly Hill; and Monica S. Bradley (Bob) of Pineville; two sisters, Lois C. Braxton of Alcolu; and Brenda C. Driggers of Turbeville; two brothers, Harry Cannon of Salters; and Wendell Cannon of St. Stephen; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 1713, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
