Robert Thompson, Sr., Lane - Funeral services for Robert Lee Thompson, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Gilbert DeKine, were held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at St. James AME Church of Lane. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. James AME Churchyard Cemetery of Lane. Mr. Thompson died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Methodist Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born December 6, 1948, in Lane, the son of the late Grover Thompson, Sr. and Marie Blackmon Thompson. He was a former member of St. James AME Church of Lane. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for almost 30 years. He was employed as a cab driver. A sister, Lillian Thompson, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Betty Jean Thompson of the home; five children, Elaine Thompson and Robert Thompson, Jr., both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Ronald Thompson of Turbeville; Margaret Ann Epps (Deadrake), and Towanna Bright, both of Kingstree; six brothers, Grover “Boobie” Thompson (Susan) of Jacksonville Florida; George Thompson (Shirley) of Lane; Raleigh Thompson (Helen) of Salters; Raymond Thompson (Roxanne) of Augusta, Georgia; James Earl Thompson (Debra) of Kingstree; and Jimmy Lee Thompson (Lacy) of Columbia; four sisters, Gladys Durant (Alexander) of Lane; Dorothy Ferrell (Abraham) of Salters; Barbara Jean McCrea (Ricky) of Kingstree; and Lillie Bell Thompson of Greeleyville; and 11 grandchildren, two of whom were reared as his own, Michael Thompson and Sainaya Thompson.
