Sylvester Gamble, Jr., Salters - Funeral services for Sylvester “Red” Gamble, Jr., conducted by Pastor John W. Wilson, were held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at D.P. Cooper Charter School of Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Huell and Gamble Memorial Garden of Salters. Mr. Gamble died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Carolinas Hospital System of Florence. He was born January 16, 1939, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Sylvester Gamble, Sr. and Sara Huell Gamble. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. Later in life, he moved to Florida and began working in the construction industry. He started his own businesses under the names of Gamble Roofing and P&G Tile and Concrete. He was married to the late Mrs. Ernestine H. Gamble. Two siblings, Rosa Lee Gamble and Robert Gamble, preceded him in death. Survivors are: eight children, Jewell M. Davis (Wayne, Sr.), Charles L. Smith and Leslie D. Rhaney, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; Elaine V. Owens (Gains), James R. Smith of Arcadia, Florida; Ernestine E. (Michael) of Lewisville, Texas; Tony S. Gamble of Myrtle Beach; and Gregory E. Gamble, Sr. of Salters; one brother, James Gamble; 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a special granddaughter, Aerriauna N. Gamble.
