Funeral services for Mrs. Cecilia “Pooh” Smith-Johnson, conducted by the Rev. Terry B. Law, were held Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery of Kingstree.
Mrs. Smith-Johnson died Tuesday, July 2, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House of Florence. She was born March 22, 1978, in Miami, Florida, the daughter of the late Claude “Bozo” Smith, Jr., and Ellen “Mousie” Hudgins Smith. She was a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. She received her formal education in the public schools of the Williamsburg County School District and graduated from Kingstree Senior High School in 1997. She furthered her education at Claflin University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a minor in Criminal Justice. In 2001, she joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice for over nine years.
Survivors are: her husband, Vern C. Johnson; one son, Jawon McCray; two stepsons, Imante Travon Williams and Imani Davon Williams, all of Kingstree; two sisters, Yolunda Hudgins of Columbia; and Joycelyn Hudgins of Kingstree; a special sister, Keisha Gregg-McKnight (Ferrallis) of Kingstree; her grandmothers, Mrs. Pauline Wilson and Mrs. Anna Bell Cooper, both of Kingstree; her grandfather, Mr. Moses Brown, Sr. of Cross; her father and mother-in-law, LaVern and Annie Ruth Cooper of Kingstree; her godparents, Katherine and Willie Scott of Florence; and Dr. Linwood and Doretha Cooper of Kingstree; and a cousin, Denise Mille, that was like a sister, of Florence.
