Carolyn Bell, Cross - Carolyn Stewart Bell died Friday, June 20, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, 2014, at The Church of the Cross. Burial, directed by Thompson Funeral Homes, followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Columbia.
Mrs. Bell was born December 24, 1930, in Columbia but was reared in Williamsburg County. She was the daughter of the late F. Kelly Stewart and Metter Goude Stewart. She went to Hebron School and Winthrop College. Niggel Brothers Tile Company employed her for several years. She had a great love of the theater and volunteered for many years at both Workshop and Town Theaters. She taught herself to play the piano at an early age and spent many happy hours with the guitar in later years. She had a passion for dance -tap especially - and was a line dance teacher for many years. She was a water colorist and belonged to both Trenholm Artist and Log Cabin Artist Guilds. She also belonged to a little-known group making rosary beads for the soldiers at Fort Jackson. She was married to the late Donald P. Cantey and the late Frank D. Bell, III, and was preceded in death by her brother, David F. Stewart and her stepmother, Lois M. Stewart.
Survivors are: one brother, Frontis K. Stewart (Bonnie) of Kingstree; two sisters, Lorice Jordan (Hart) of Fort Valley, Georgia; and Elaine Kimmery of Lexington; four children, Donald P. Cantey, Jr. of Eastover; Joyce Chesney of Taylors; and Debra Hudson (John) and Mark D. Cantey, both of Columbia; one step-son, Frank D. Bell, IV, of Eastover; two step-daughters, Laura Britt (Jeff) of Sanford, North Carolina; and Ann Bell Owens of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
