Making it on a television series was a goal of Ashleigh Nicole Mabry. Her dream has come true as she was selected to appear on the national television series “Bad Girls Club Atlanta.”
The journey to stardom began when Mabry, 19, watched season eight of the reality show series. “After I watched that I wanted to go on it so bad,” said Mabry whose childhood home is Salters. “I finally get to live my dream.”
When Mabry was a junior at Kingstree High School she was on the cusp of notoriety when she was tried out for the dance group “Twerk Team” whose plan was to expand its team to three but later decided to keep it a twosome. The disappointment didn’t dampen her spirits.
Over the next two years she worked with promoter Jason Pope where she attended photo shoots and made appearances at celebrity parties and concerts. In May her hard work paid off when she received a letters announcing she was selected to appear on the “Bad Girls Club Atlanta.” “When I opened that letter I screamed from the top of my lungs,” said Mabry. “I was so excited I wanted to faint. Because knowing I was going to be on Bad Girls Club - my life’s dream - oh my god – it’s coming true.” Mabry was one of only eight girls chosen from the Southeast United States out of over 7,000 entries. She was the only girl selected from South Carolina. The show focuses around a group of women who tend to be unruly while enjoying a lavish lifestyle living together in a mansion. Mabry says she’ll fit right in. “Everybody calls me the drama queen,” she said laughing. Her mother Barbara agrees. “I’m happy for her but I hope she doesn’t get beat up,” said her mom. “I’m sure it will work out fine for her.”
In September, Mabry will arrive in Atlanta to begin filming. The goal is to last until the final day and to compete in the All-Star Battle for $100,000 and the title of “Baddest Bad Girl of All Time.” The program will air on the cable channel Oxygen beginning in January 2015. Mabry is equally excited that her idle wrestling great Ric Flair will make an appearance on an episode. “Can you believe it,” said Mabry of the 16-time world champion. “Ric Flair will be on the show with me.”
The show is currently airing every Tuesday night on Oxygen.
