Eddie Gamble, Sr., Salters - Eddie “Tug” and “Bull” Gamble, Sr., 91, of Salters, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Tidelands Community Hospice House of Georgetown. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Gamble, Jr., were held Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Andrews. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the Salters Cemetery of Salters.
Mr. Gamble was born November 9, 1922, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Edward and Mary McCrea Gamble of Salters. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church of Salters. He served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board and yard custodian for many years. He was one of the lead singers on the Senior/Gospel choir. He was a farmer and worked at a sawmill for many years. He was married to the late Nettie Moore Gamble. An adopted son, Leonard Conyers, preceded him in death. Survivors are: eight sons, Frank Scott, Sr. and James L. Gamble, Sr. (Hester), both of Kingstree; Otis Benjamin Gamble, Sr. (Cozy) of Yonkers, New York; Deacon Ervin Leroy Gamble, Sr. (Gloria Jean), Willie Charles Gamble (Oree), Deacon David Gamble, Sr. (Pearlie), the Rev. Eddie Gamble, Jr. (Martha Ann) and Sammie Lee Gamble (Evangelist Nancy), all of Salters; seven daughters, Margaret McClam (Mickey) of St. Stephen; Mary Lee Izzard (Soloman) and Celia Bell Tisdale (Marvin), both of Kingstree; Audrey Gibson (Gerald), Gloria Ann Gibson (Leroy, Sr.) and Annie Ruth Davis (Keith), all of Salters; and Sarah L. Montgomery (Rodney) of Goose Creek; two adopted children, Celestine Conyers McIntosh (Bernard) of Lake City; and Yolanda Conyers Strobert (Darryl) of Savannah, Georgia; 56 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and four adopted grandchildren.
