Seniors Patrol

Details: The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check.  Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Eric Williams or Police Chaplain the Rev. Harold Jackson. Chief Williams or Rev. Jackson can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

TOPS

Details: Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

Senior Bingo

Details: The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

Health Screening

Details: The Nursing Department of Francis Marion University has been approved to provide free health screenings every Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Felician Center located at 1000 Thorne Avenue, Kingstree. Sugar testing, vision testing etc. will be provided free of charge. In addition, a licensed nurse will be available to assist individuals with some health planning on a regular basis.

Child Screenings

Details: Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Services, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

Programs

Christ “N” Me sponsors youth programs every second Sunday of the month. If you are looking for the youth to come out to your church, please contact TeaTon at (843) 356-7397.

Through The Storm Outreach, Inc., a Maternity Group Home located in Kingstree, has beds available for youth ages 16 to 22. They will come pick the youth up from your facility and intake them into their program for up to 540 days. There are five beds available for pregnant and parenting girls. Yoga Classes

A free introduction to yoga with Evelyn Cloy will be held Monday, June 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the Kingstree Town Hall, Council Meeting Room, 401 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree.

Regular yoga classes for beginners and Chair yoga classes are offered at the St. Alban's Episcopal Church Parrish Hall at 305 Hampton Ave., Kingstree. Please use the door at the hall that does not face Hampton Ave. on the left side. The classes are open to a diverse population and require no experience with yoga. More challenging postures and sequences are occasionally offered.

Pageant

Details: Mary's Angels, a nonprofit 501(C)3, cordially invites Williamsburg County youth to participate in this year's county pageant.  The county pageant, officially part of the Miss America Organization, will be held Friday, June 13, at Williamsburg County Complex, 147 W. Main Street Kingstree. This year's theme is “Flawless.” Applications for the event can be found at Williamsburg County schools and local beauty and barber shops.

Details: The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

Reunion

Details: The Tomlinson Alumni, Inc. of Kingstree announces its bi-annual school reunion for Labor Day Weekend, to begin Friday, August 29  through Sunday, August 31.

Play

Details: Disney's “The Aristocats Kids” will be at the Blanding Street Theatre, 125 S. Blanding Street, Lake City. Shows are June 20, at 7:30 p.m., June 21, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and June 22, at 3 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the door of the theatre one hour before each production or from any cast member. Youth from many schools in the area are participating.

Blood Drive

Details: The American Red Cross will sponsor blood drives on Monday, June 30, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1760 Muddy Creek Rd., from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 11, at Santee Electric Cooperative, 424 Sumter Highway.

Classes and Workshops

Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service Livestock and Forages Team will conduct a one day Backyard Poultry/Chicken Workshop.  This program will be held on Friday June 27, at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center in Florence,.  The program will begin 10 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.

Camps

4-H Club Summer Camp for ages 8-14 to be held at W.W. Long Leadership Center in Aiken.  June 15-19, and June 22-26. Call for details Jolie Brown at (843) 355-6106.

The annual Coker College Skills & Drills Summer Baseball Camp will be held June 16 to June 20, at Tom J. New Field. The five sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. The camp will be devoted to pitching, hitting, bunting, and base running.
The camp is open to players ages six to 17.

4-H Camp - July 7, July 9, and July 11, Battery Park 4-H Day Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Battery Park School; registration required by Tuesday, July 1.
(Battery Park 4-H will have a summer program that runs from June 16 to August 15, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday- Friday; must be a 4-H member to participate)
July 28 to July 30, 4-H Club Day Camp 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Clemson Extension office in Kingstree; registration required by Monday, July 21.
July 31,  4-H Summer Festival 5 to 7 p.m. at the Clemson Extension office in Kingstree; (4-H members and volunteers get in free!).
Kids will enjoy crafts and a small petting zoo. There will also be educational activities involving livestock and forestry. A fundraiser will be available. All proceeds will go towards Williamsburg County 4-H clubs for the 2014-2015 club year
August 12 to August 13,  4-H Healthy Kids in the Kitchen Day Camp 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Hemingway area location TBD; register by August 1; ages nine to 14. Hemingway Community Club will be joining the Battery Park 4-H Program this summer for club meetings. The club will meet at Battery Park School June 17 and July 15, from 5-5:45 p.m. Regular meeting location (Hemingway Library) will resume for the August 19, meeting

Head Start Applications

Details: Waccamaw EOC, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start, a federally-funded comprehensive preschool program, is currently accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year. Head start provides services for children three and four years of age residing in Williamsburg County. Early head start provides services for infants and toddlers ages six weeks - under 36 months and Expectant Families.The program is at no cost to families. Events

Welcome Home and Benefits Fair on June 20, for Combat Veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan. Free event for  veterans and their families will be held June 20, at Fort Jackson's Weston Lake Recreation Area from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events include gate pass, paddle boats, lunch, games, face-painting, swimming and V-A Benefits information.

Hiring

Details: South Carolina Department of Corrections is hiring officers and cadets statewide at the Goodwill of Sumter Job Link Center, 1028 Broad St., Sumter.
Pre-registration will be held June 4 to June 19. The hiring event will be held Friday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Tutoring

Details: The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (Kingstree chapter) will sponsor free tutoring sessions this summer for students (four to 12 years old). If your child is in need of tutoring in math or reading please call (843) 372-5938.

Baseball

Details: Kingstree Junior Legion invites everyone to come out and enjoy America's favorite pastime.
Please mark the following dates on your calendar to come out and join Kingstree Junior Legion Post 8. Game schedule: Wednesday, June 18 - Oswego Thursday, June 19 - Lake City Monday, June 23 - Manning Tuesday, June 24 - Camden All games are played at Williamsburg Academy at 6:30 p.m. June 19, is Wounded Warrior night.
All gate proceeds will donated to The Wounded Warrior Project.

Book Signing

The public is invited to attend a book signing with author Bob Spearman.
Spearman, a native of Williamsburg, will be signing first published book “Turf and Surf” at the Williamsburg County Library June 26, at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
