Kingstree native Teneisha Wakia Watkins will be representing Williamsburg County in the Miss South Carolina Teen pageant. The pageant will be held June 21 to June 28, in Columbia at the Township Auditorium. Watkins was crowned Miss Williamsburg County Teen in June 2013. The journey to the crown was very interesting for the rising junior. “The journey of being Miss Williamsburg County Teen was very interesting, adventurous, and also helps improve leadership,” said Watkins. “I enjoyed my year of serving the county. The task wasn't always easy but with my motivators which were my family, friends, neighbors, teachers and more, I made it through it all.” Watkins was especially thankful for her grandmothers, Linda Watkins and Laura Chandler. “I thank God for them,” said Watkins. “Without their faith, prayers, encouragement, teachings, and belief in me I wouldn't have made it this far. They were there through thick and thin.
On June 13, Watkins passed her crown on to 2014 winner Chyna Hicks. “I encourage all young ladies to do anything as far as competing for the title of Miss Williamsburg County Teen because it’s a great experience,” said Watkins. “Just remember to remember those who helped you along the way. Also, believe and strive hard in anything you do.”
