The two football signees from Kingstree High were Calvin Giles-McClary and Vidal McKnight, both of whom graduated with academic honors.
Giles-McClary signed with South Carolina State. He played both quarterback and defensive back in high school for the Jaguars. His senior season, he threw 16 TD passes and led the team on defense with five interceptions. Giles-McClary will play either defensive back or wide receiver in college.
McKnight signed with Newberry College. He was Kingstree’s top receiver with 37 catches for more than 800 yards and eight touchdowns his senior season.
He will play both wide receiver and use his exceptional speed as a return man in college.
Giles-McClary and McKnight led Kingstree to the second round of the Class AA Division II State playoffs last season under Head Coach Charlie Brown. “I believe both kids are going to do extremely well,” said Brown. “They are going to represent their colleges and this community very well.” Brown was an NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver with the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons in the 1980s.
