Mary Smith, Kingstree - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lee “Mae” Wilson Smith, conducted by Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr., were held Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery of Kingstree. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at her residence. She was born September 11, 1939, the daughter of the late Deacon William and Mary B. Cobb Wilson. Eight siblings Paul, William, Isaac, Albert, James, Lizzie, Mary Alice and Sylvia, preceded her in death. She attended Huie Branch School in the Cedar Swamp Community of Kingstree. She worked as a housewife and on the farm. She was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was the Mayor of Thorne Avenue.
Survivors are: four daughters, Deloris Cooper, Patricia Wilson, Gracie Anderson and Gloria Jean Smith, all of Kingstree; one son, William Junior Wilson (Leelann) of Kingstree; two sisters, Rebecca Blanding and Annie Mae Shaw, both of Kingstree; her husband, Franklin Smith of Winston Salem, North Carolina; two nieces reared as sisters, Flora Owens of Miami, Florida; and Charlotte McCrea of Rochester, New York; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Marvin Woodberry, Vincent Hugee, James Brown, Jr., Chris Grant, Micheal Flagler, and Gilbert Anderson.
