Carlton Buckles Funeral services for Carlton “Dick” Buckles, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Aubrey Floyd, were held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery.
Mr. Buckles, 84, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Born in Kingstree, he was the son of the late Ernest E. and Ozellia Baylor Buckles. He taught Sunday school as a young man, and attended church. He graduated from Clemson University in 1953 where he played tenor sax in the band. He was a member of IPTAY for 61 years and was a longtime life scholarship donor. He was retired from International Minerals & Chemicals. He was the “Mayor of Chester Avenue” and was “orange through and through.” Five siblings, Pete Buckles, Jack Buckles, Harold Buckles, Ernest Buckles, Jr., and Louise Huffstetler, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: his wife, Sara Harris Buckles of Hartsville; and one sister, Joyce Buckles McCloughlin of Charleston.
