Dr. James C. “Jimmie” Williamson, president of the South Carolina Technical College System (SCTCS) and former president of Williamsburg Technical College (WTC), will serve as guest speaker at the Kingstree College’s commencement ceremony Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. Nearly 145 WTC students are slated to receive certificates, diplomas and degrees during the ceremony.

In addition to serving as a faculty member or administrator at four community colleges and three universities in South Carolina, Williamson has coauthored a textbook for underprepared college students, has been published in the Community College Review, and has received the South Carolina Governor’s Award for Two-Year College Educational Champion of the Year.  He also currently serves as an online adjunct professor with St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Williamson holds bachelors and master’s degrees from Winthrop University where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees and a recipient of that institution’s Professional Achievement Award. He also holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He has been involved in Rotary for many years and is involved with the Chamber of Commerce and various economic development boards.

He is former member of the Chesterfield County School Board. While at WTC, Williamson was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Williamsburg HomeTown Chamber. He and his wife have two sons and reside in Cheraw.

The WTC commencement ceremony will be held on the college’s courtyard. In the event of rain, it will be held in the Kingstree Senior High School Gymnasium.
