On Saturday, April 5, Kennedy Rogers and Nathaniel Jolley, both seniors at Kingstree Senior High School, were invited to attend the CALL ME MISTER Spring Summit at Morris College of Sumter.  CALL ME MISTER is a highly acclaimed national recruitment and support program designed to increase the number of elementary school teachers with diverse backgrounds.

Program participants are typically selected from under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at risk communities.

MISTER is an acronym for “Mentors Instructing Students toward Effective Role Models.”At the summit, students heard from keynote speakers such as Dr. Maggie Wallace Glover, former South Carolina State Senator and currently the Director of Developmental Programs and Special Activities at Morris College, and MISTER Anthony Broughton, Associate Director of Curriculum at the Benedict College Child Development Center and Adjunct Professor at Benedict College and the University of South Carolina. They also attended various workshops. Kennedy plans to participate in the CALL ME MISTER program at Morris College, while Nathaniel will participate in the CALL ME MISTER program at Coastal Carolina University.
