Georgie Gethers, Alvin - Funeral services for Mrs. Georgie Mae Gethers, conducted by Pastor John W. Wilson, were held Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Bethlehem Baptist Church of Alvin. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery of Alvin. Mrs. Gethers died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at her residence in Alvin. She was born December 19, 1940, the daughter of the late George Robinson and Beatrice Gethers Vice in Alvin. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She was employed at Santee River Wool Company and Berkeley County School System. Two grandchildren and a sister preceded her in death.

Survivors are: four children, Christopher Gethers of Alvin; Glenn Gethers (Karen) of Walterboro; Audrey Williams (Bruce) of Moncks Corner; and Sherrie Runge (Wade) of Richmond, Virginia; six sisters, Joyce Watson (Charlie) of Kingstree; Hannah Nails and Gladys Blake (Tony), both of Brooklyn, New York; Alice Mae Miller (Kizer) of Moncks Corner; Diane Washington (Ronald) of Aiken; and Lisa Washington (Eric) of Santee; two cousins who grew up like siblings, Martha Williams and Clarence Gethers; a friend who was like a sister, Ethel Robinson; 17 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
