Kenneth Gardner Elementary students received special recognitions for performance at the Honors Program held recently at the school. In addition to numerous honors, students are recognized at the end of each nine-weeks grading period for excellence in academics and related school activities.
As part of “The Leader in Me” Leadership Initiative in practice at the school, one of the “Seven Habits” of leadership, students learn is to “Sharpen the Saw.” This means students should lead a balanced life of academics and taking care of “self.”
Art education allows students to discover their artistic abilities and self-expression through the use of different mediums. Students learn and become aware of the positive impact that regular physical activity has on their health and in other areas of their life. They learn that there is a connection between how they feel physically and how they perform academically. Art and physical fitness activities balance out a school day for students by helping them to stay healthy physically, emotionally and socially.
Jillian Lynch and Mary Hannah are the school’s art and physical education teachers, respectively.
