 Funeral service for Julia May Taylor Burr, 93, was held Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Keenan Chapel. Burial, directed Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, will be private.Mrs. Burr, widow of Col. Charles Herbert Burr, Jr., died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Still Hopes Episcopal Home – Jane Bruce Guignard Neighborhood.  Born in Greeleyville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Vincent and Martha Elizabeth Murchison Taylor.  She was a graduate of Furman University, where she was a member of Senior Order and Who’s Who in American Colleges. Upon graduation, she worked for the Chemical Warfare Department in Tennessee where she met her future husband, Charles Burr.  They had a long distance courtship during World War II and married when he returned from Europe.  Their first assignment as newlyweds was in Germany immediately following World War II. Through years of moving from Germany to Paris, from Virginia to Arizona to Massachusetts, she always enjoyed the change and challenges of army life. She was a capable businesswoman, leading almost every organization she was associated with in a warm gracious manner.  She was a member and past regent of the Ann Pamela Cunningham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a longtime member and past president of the Dogwood Garden Club. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a 23-year resident of the Heritage Condominiums and served on the Homeowners Board for many years. A brother, Samuel Vincent Taylor, Jr., preceded her in death. Survivors are: two daughters, Martha Catherine Burr Hopkins (Dr. Truman Alexander Hopkins) of Columbia; and Julia Taylor Burr Wills (Thomas Jackson Wills, IV) of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
