William Ellerbe Ackerman, Jr. was relieved of his duties according to a March 31, Supreme Court Order. The Court Order cited continuing medical problems.
Ackerman was sworn in as Chief Magistrate in 2009. Senator Yancey McGill recommended Ackerman for the appointment. "He is one of the finest judges that we've ever had in the magistrate system of Williamsburg County," said McGill. "His honesty, his integrity and his judicial temperament and knowledge of the law are excellent. I wish judge Ackerman well in his retirement."
Ackerman was also magistrate for the Town of Kingstree, having served in that capacity since 2008. He has served on the bench for 22 years. Prior to his appointment he served the towns of Andrews and Pawley's Island as municipal judge.
Williamsburg County Associate Chief Magistrate Deloris F. Williams has been appointed to fill the unexpired term.
