Archibald Newell, Greeleyville - Funeral services for Archibald "Archie" Roosevelt Newell, conducted by the Rev. James Carter, were held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery of Greeleyville. Mr. Newell died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born January 13, 1936, in Greeleyville, the son of the late Mrs. Lillie Newell and Deacon Walter Newell, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. From his youth, he attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Greeleyville. He was baptized at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church of Kingstree. He enjoyed a career in the food service industry. He also worked as a caregiver for several years. Five siblings, Sarah Nelson, Willie Newell, Mamie Lee Hunter, Moses Newell and Bessie Heyward, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: two daughters, Archie Rochelle Bennett of Charleston; and Ira Bennett of Sylvania, Ohio; one sister, Frances Limehouse (Samuel) of the home; four brothers; Walter Newell, Jr. (Nellie) of Kingstree; Samuel Newell (Lee) of Oxon Hill, Maryland; David Newell (Maryland) of Clinton, Maryland; and Albert Newell of Salters; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
