Senator Yancey McGill's legislative update

Senator Yancey McGill

The three week debate is over on H.3101, the "South Carolina Freedom of Health Care Protection Act," as the bill was defeated in the Senate. Numerous bills were returned from Senate Committees and placed on the calendar for future deliberations. One of those is legislation setting forth penalties for anyone convicted of falsely claiming, for the purpose of personal gain, to have military service or awards. Another bill from the Judiciary Committee prohibits an employer from dismissing, demoting, suspending or disciplining an employee who reports child abuse or neglect.
Wednesday we were honored to have many members of the S. C. National Guard at the State House. These men and women have families and full time jobs, and still volunteer to serve their country, even if that means making the ultimate sacrifice. They are certainly worthy of our wholehearted support and continued gratitude.
An effort was made at the end of the legislative week to give an infrastructure bill dealing with fixing our highways and roads a special place on the Senate calendar. The move was voted down this time, but we will continue to try to bring this bill to the floor of the Senate for debate. The condition of our roads is not just a safety hazard, but it is detrimental to our economy and economic development.
