Two separate crashes end with fatalities

On February 27, a man was killed as he lay in the road. The crash happened in Williamsburg County on US 521 bypass near the town of Andrews. Williamsburg County Assistant Coroner Be Horton identified the deceased man as Eddie Shackleford Sr., 89, of Andrews. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol Shackleford was lying in the roadway when a 2008 Ford service truck struck him. The crash occurred around 5:55 in the morning. No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle.
On March 8, a man was killed when a vehicle hit the moped he was driving. Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight identified the deceased as Eric Fulton, 49, of Lake City. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, around 5:40 pm, Fulton was traveling north on Secondary 113 in Williamsburg County when the moped he was driving collided with a 2002 Ford pickup driven by Anthony Owens. Owens, 38, was driving the pickup east on Secondary 33.  He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the collision.  Fulton was transported to McCloud Hospital where he later died of his injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
