For their Rotary Service Project "Happy Feet," Kingstree Rotarians outfitted 60 elementary children from Williamsburg County School District. Students from Greeleyville Elementary, Hemingway Elementary and Williamsburg County Magnet School of the Arts were fitted with a new pair of shoes and socks as well as a story time and face painting.

Rotarians and Interact officers from Williamsburg Academy greeted the students and helped each child pick out a perfect pair of new shoes. "This service project was a huge success," said Rotarian Ernie Jarrett who coordinated the $2,000 project. "We appreciate the help from the Williamsburg Academy Interact officers and we want to thank the Williamsburg County School District for selecting and providing the perfect kids for this project. The kids were all so well behaved and seemed to truly appreciate the new shoes and socks."

Williamsburg Academy senior Raina McKenzie participated in the event. "Today was a real eye opener to the local poverty we know is there but seem to overlook daily," said McKenzie. "We take so many things for granted including the ability to a buy a pair of shoes whenever we please. The look on their faces was priceless when we told them that they could pick out any pair they wanted." Kingstree Rotary is a part of Rotary International and meets each Monday at Brown's Bar-B-Que at 12:30 p.m.
