Hampton Irvin Perry died Thursday, February 13, 2014. A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Grover Mixon and the Rev. Randy Zurcher, was held Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Spring Gully Baptist Church of Andrews. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Perry was born April 12, 1928, in Cedar Springs, Georgia, the son of Ruby Roberts Perry and Willie Green Perry. After serving two years at Bethesda Naval Hospital during World War II, he later graduated from Furman University. He attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and served as pastor of many Southern Baptist churches in South Carolina during a 55-year span. He also taught elementary school and high school English and math. A son Dan (Terrie), and two siblings, Fletcher and Annette, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Vera Bryan Perry; two sons, Wade (Pat) and Gordon (Barbara); one daughter, Rose Jones (Tim); four sisters, Hallie (Joe), Syble, Ada (Jerry), and Macie; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
