George Ansel Benton, Sr., 83, husband of Connie Smith Benton, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Benton was born July 14, 1930, in Kingstree, the son of the late James Arrowood Benton and Bertha McKnight Benton. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a US Army veteran, having served in the Artillery in Germany. “Mr. George” was retired from A & P Food Company after 50 years of service and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Three brothers, James, Pete, and Paul Benton, preceded him in death. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Connie Benton of Kingstree, are: one son, George A. “Boog” Benton, Jr. (Carla) of Myrtle Beach; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kingstree First Baptist Church, 400 N. Academy Street, PO Box 608, Kingstree, SC 29556.
